What
is My Settings?
My Settings is the function for changing the vast array of user definitions
that make Individual.com so customized. It can be accessed by using the My
Settings box on the left navigation column on either your NewsPage Email or
Internet Version. It is the last box on the column, so you may have to scroll
down a bit to see it. These settings can also be found by clicking the My
Settings link on the horizontal navigation bar at the top of each page. Note
that in order to make changes from your NewsPage Email, you must be connected
to the Internet. By clicking the My Settings link or any of the options in
the My Setting box on the left navigational column, you can change all of
your options available with the service, including:
- The topics and companies you
want to follow and the order of their display on your NewsPage. The top
4 topics are the ones that will be displayed automatically in the center
column of your NewsPage.
- Your email address and email
options such as receiving the NewsPage Email (and the edition you would
like). Whether you choose to receive third party offers is also an
option in this section.
- Whether you display Top World
News and Financial Market Summary information on your NewsPage can be
updated here.
What does the "I'm not Name" link next
to my name do?
If multiple users make use of the same machine to access Individual.com, this
link will allow a new user to login and display their individualized
NewsPage. You can also use the Log Out option to clear out your settings as
well on a machine that is used by others. If you do this you will be prompted
to Log In when you come back.
If
you forget your password, you can click on the "Forgot Your
Password?" link and have it emailed to you.
How do I use my Individual.com NewsPage?
Your Individual.com NewsPage consists of all your selected topics and
companies. It can be accessed with or without the NewsPage Email from any
Internet-enabled device. The NewsPage is divided into columns with a top
horizontal area that covers each of the columns. This top horizontal area of
the page is the masthead where we put our logo, your name and some links.
The
left column of the page (also called the left navigation column) consists of
all your topics (My Topics), the companies you are tracking (My Companies), a
list of all the Newdesks (whether they contain topic you have selected or
not), a search widget and a complete settings offering (My Settings). Think
of the left column as your personal table of contents and navigation tool. In
My Topics, for instance, the table of contents displays all your topic
choices in your order of priority.
Clicking
on the My Topics or My Companies option in left navigation column will bring
up the day's news in the center content area of the page. All of your
information (e.g., headlines, briefs, full-text articles, stock quotes,
charts, etc.) will be displayed in this main content area.
Be
sure to bookmark your Individual.com Personal Homepage for fast daily access.
How many topics can I have in my profile?
You can have up to 100 topics in your settings. To avoid creating your own
information overload, though, we suggest having fewer than 100 in your
profile. Like maybe 10 to 20.
Can I change my settings?
Absolutely. Individual.com is meant to be as dynamic as you, so feel free to
change your settings at any time. We have tried to make this as easy as
possible by giving you as many entry points to your settings as possible.
Simply click on the My Settings link at the top and bottom of each page or
select any of the options in the My Setting box on the left navigation bar.
Within each mode, you can add, remove, or re-arrange your selections to fit
your unique needs.
You
can also make changes to your personal information and password by selecting
the Personal Info link.
The
Preferences link also contains important information.
Can anyone get a personalized issue?
Absolutely. As long as they're registered users of Individual.com, that is.
Registration is free. Please tell all your friends and colleagues about us.
How does "Search" work?
We offer a search function that is powered by Google. This function searches
all the news sites on the Internet and comes back with your result. To
facilitate the search we automatically spawn a new window. Your results are
then displayed in this new window.
What is the Individual.com NewsPage Email?
Using your custom news settings, we generate your Individual.com NewsPage
Email. It will appear in your email box every morning containing the day's
headlines and news relevant to your needs. Because of time zone differences
in the U.S., we offer two editions. One goes out between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m.
EST, the other between 11a.m. and 12 p.m. EST.
Your
Individual.com NewsPage Email consists of your top 4 topics and links to your
other topics and companies. It can be accessed and used with or without
Internet access. When connected to the Internet, all the links on the
Email are "live," providing a much richer experience.
The
NewsPage Email is divided into columns with a top horizontal area that covers
each of the columns. This top horizontal area of the page is the masthead
where we put our logo, your name and some links.
Your
email is sent in plain HTML and looks much like your NewsPage Internet
Version. Since most people accessing the NewsPage Email are connected to the
Internet, the left column of the page (also called the left navigation
column) consists of all your topics (My Topics), the companies you are
tracking (My Companies), a list of all the Newdesks (whether they contain
topic you have selected or not), a search widget and a complete settings
offering (My Settings). Think of the left column as your personal table of
contents and navigation tool. In My Topics, for instance, the table of
contents displays all your topic choices in your order of priority.
If
you are connected to the Internet, clicking on any My Topics or My Companies
option in left navigation column will bring up the day's news in the center
content area of the page. All of your information (e.g., headlines, briefs,
full-text articles, stock quotes, charts, etc.) will be displayed in this
main content area.

Individual.com is compatable with most browsers. If you have a specific
problem, please Contact Us.
Why are there more articles on the Website than
in the email?
Your daily NewsPage email is sent at 8 a.m. or 11 a.m. EST, depending on your
settings. At that time there are less articles on all the topics than there
are later in the day. So, when you pursue your email and then click to the
Website, there are generally more (newer) articles on your topics because
articles have filtered in since the email hit your inbox. Since news is
always new, you should check your NewsPage on the Individual.com Website as
often as possible.
