How do
I change my Individual.com topic settings for my NewsPage?
As your job and/or interests change you may want to change your
Individual.com topic settings for your NewsPage Email and Internet Version.
There are over 200 topics to choose from and it is a good idea to check back
periodically to see which new topics have been added. The set of topics
originally created for you upon registration is most likely not as relevant
as one that you create after using the service for a while.
You
can have up to 100 topics in your profile. To avoid creating your own
information overload, though, we suggest having fewer than 100 in your
profile. Like maybe 10 to 20.
When
you change your topics, you automatically change them for both your NewsPage
Email and Internet Version. To do this, click the My Topics link in the left
navigation column in the My Settings box (if you are doing this from your
Daily Email, you must be connected to the Internet). The My Settings list is
the last box on the column, so you may have to scroll down a bit to see it.
Once you find the topics you want, you can add them to your profile by
clicking the box next to the desired topic. The box should now have a check
mark in it. To remove a topic, click the corresponding box, which will have a
check mark in it. The check mark will disappear and the topic will be
removed. To expand a Newsdesk to see all of its topics, click on the
"+" sign in front of it. When you are done, click the Update Topics
button and your My Topics section on your NewsPage will be changed to reflect
your modifications.
After
you click the Update Topics button, you will be asked to prioritize your
topics. This is very important as the top 4 Topics you specify will be used
to create the core of your NewsPage Email and Internet Version. Use the
buttons to order your topics and when done, click the Update Priorities
button.
Your
individualized issue is meant to be as dynamic as you are, so feel free to
change and prioritize your Topics at any time.
How do I change the general settings for my
Individual.com NewsPage Email?
All of the settings for your NewsPage Email can be found in the My Settings
box on the left navigation column on either your NewsPage Email or Internet
Version. It is the last box on the column, so you may have to scroll down a
bit to see it. These settings can also be found by clicking the My Settings
link on the horizontal navigation bar at the top of each page. Note that in
order to make changes from your NewsPage Email, you must be connected to the
Internet.
The
My Settings options are:
- Topics. This option lets you
add and delete topics. It also allows you to order your list of topics.
- Companies. This option lets
you add and delete companies you wish to track.
- Personal information. Items
such as your name, zip code, email address, password, job type, industry
can be updated here.
- Preferences. This includes
your choice of Daily Email editions or the option not to receive the
Daily Email. Also your option to receive third party emailings or not
can be updated here.
- Forget Password? This option
allows you to have your password emailed to you should you have
forgotten it.
- Log out. This option allows
you to log out of your customized NewsPage. This denies anyone else
using the computer after you the ability to use your NewsPage. How do I

Click on the Preferences link found in the My Settings box on the left
navigation column on either your NewsPage Email or Internet Version. It is
the last box on the column, so you may have to scroll down a bit to see it.
Note that in order to make changes from your NewsPage Email, you must be
connected to the Internet.
The
Email preferences are included in this section. The first option will relate
to the Email Edition and you have two options here:
- First edition only: Sent out
between 8-9 a.m. EST
- Second edition only: Sent out
between 12 p.m. and a.m. EST
- No emails, I prefer to read
my Individual.com online.
- Cancel my subscription to
Individual.com completely, no emails, no individual.com customized
homepage.
Choose
the option that matches your choice and click the option. If you choose
"No emails," you will still be able to use your NewsPage Internet
Version by signing on using your email and password. If you cancel your
subscription, you will not receive emails nor will you be able to to access
your NewsPage Internet Version.
When
you are done making your choices, click the Update button.
The
second option relates to third party mailings. We allow certain email offers to
be made to those individuals who wish to receive them. This allows us, in
part, to fund the service we offer as does the banner advertising we display.
Here you have two options, with the Yes option selected as our default:
- Yes, I am interested in receiving
special offers
- No thanks
To
opt out, select the "No thanks" option and click the Update button.
My
account has been cancelled, how do I reactivate it?
If you have cancelled your subscription to Individual.com, using one of the
My Settings options, you will no longer be able to sign on. When you try to
sign on, you will receive a "Cancelled Account, Contact Customer
Service" message. If you wish to reactivate your account, we have made it
easy for you. All you do is click the Forget Your Password? link and an email
will be sent to you describing how to reactivate your account.
How do I switch my Individual.com NewsPage Email
from HTML to ASCII (text)?
When we re-designed Individual.com, we made the tough decision to only offer
it as an HTML email. This offered the majority of users the ability to more
easily read the email and select "drill down" options such as
reading the full text of articles.
We
figured that if there was significant demand for a text version, we could add
it later, so if you feel strongly about this, please let us know.
