Italian consumers association Altroconsumo has gone to court in Rome over the practice of public broadcaster RAI to encrypt its programs on satellite. In an emergency appeal lodged in a Rome court, Altroconsumo claims that the encryption of public service transmissions represents an unfair trade practice, undermining the rights and collective interests of consumers. Because of this, the over 500,000 families who will never be reached by DTT will find it impossible to access public service content via satellite. Altroconsumo calculated that from 4 August to 4 October it was impossible to watch the Raiuno channel for 87h58m, Raidue for 220h26m and Raitre for 104h53m.
