Short-term dreams: Entrepreneurs hoping to cash in find that holiday season carts and stores may cost less this year

Weary shoppers will be able to get a foot massage at Mayfair this holiday season -- in the same small store where a short-lived business offered fish pedicures last summer.

Happy Foot Palace, where people, not fish, perform the services, is one of dozens of short-term retail operations that are opening this month in malls around the Milwaukee area. Like the arrival of Santa Claus, the pop-up stores, carts and kiosks are an annual harbinger of the season.
